Beijing 2022: NBC Sports Recruits EVS's LiveCeption Signature Solution for Olympics Production

NBC Sports has selected EVS’ LiveCeption Signature solution for its production of the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, from Beijing, China, February 2–20.

“Our continued partnership with EVS will heavily rely on the XT-VIA platform with even further integration for UHD 1080p and HDR production through the Winter Olympics, building on successes from Tokyo,” says Darryl Jefferson, VP of Post Operations and Digital Workflow, NBC Sports & Olympics. “The dependable infrastructure of the provider allow us to seamlessly work in multiple formats and standards, all in real time.”

NBCUniversal provides coverage of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games from February 2-20, featuring a Winter Olympics-record 2,800+ hours of coverage across NBC, Peacock, USA Network, CNBC, and the NBC Sports app. The Opening Ceremony was presented on Friday, Feb. 4, live in the morning and again in primetime on NBC and Peacock. Similar to recent Winter Games, NBC’s primetime Olympic coverage began the night before the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 3. Coverage began on Wednesday, Feb. 2, on USA Network and Peacock. NBCUniversal is presenting its 18th Olympic Games, 12th consecutive overall, and sixth straight Winter Games, all the most by any U.S. media company.

NBC Sports will deploy LiveCeption Signature across the International Broadcast Centers in Beijing and Stamford, and other venues for their 1080p – UHD HDR live production of the Olympic Winter Games. The solution is comprised of EVS’ flagship XT-VIA servers and LSM-VIA replay and highlights systems to provide the power, scale and versatility needed to deliver the high standards of performance of NBC Olympics’ productions.

“We are proud of NBC Sports’ continued trust in EVS and our technology,” says Quentin Grutman, Chief Customer Officer at EVS. “LiveCeption Signature has been designed at its core to meet even the most demanding live production requirements, and we are confident this solution will enhance NBC Sports’ visual narrative of the event.”
